Wednesday January 23, 2013 - Race results, maps and pics from the race added to results page.

Friday January 18, 2013 - The pre-race email was sent to all participants we received an email address for during registration.  If you did not receive the email, it can be viewed by clicking this link.

Monday January 14, 2013 - With the unseasonably warm weather we've received a few inquiries about snow conditions and if the event will happen if there's not enough snow.  The event will be run even if there isn't enough snow to require snowshoes. Participants are free to choose if they feel running with, or without snowshoes will be best.  The forecast is for more snow later this week and we'll be posting updates here on what our recommendations will be for foot attire.  Right now there is a small amount of snow (in places, depending on drifts) in the forests where the race will take place.

New Map - GHO member Chris Piller has been hard at work digitizing a new, very accurate adventure running map of Loree Forest where the event will take place.  We're very excited to be able to use this new map for the first time in an event this coming weekend.  Loree Forest presents unique terrain not found in many area's of southern Ontario with significant elevation changes, countless steep valleys alongside a flat plateau.  This all creates an endless selection of check point placement opportunities.

Snowshoe Recommendation:

We're often asked to recommend which snowshoes are most suitable for the Snowshoe Raid. This can be a tough question, since we don't know what snow conditions we'll experience on race day. There could be light, fluffy powder, deep, wet snow, or even hard, icy conditions. However, if someone is looking for the best all-round snowshoe, not only for racing, but for general snowshoe hiking, or running, we'd recommend Atlas brand "Run", or "Race" models. They offer the ideal surface-area to weight ratio, meaning they're incredibly light, but still afford enough surface-area to traverse through deep snow. They also come with an aggressive toe and heel crampon for grip on any surface. These are the snowshoes we use during course testing, and are also the snowshoes worn by most of the podium finishers in our event. More details on these snowshoes can be found on the Atlas website. They can be purchased at any of our retail partners, including Running Free (store's located throughout the GTA), Sojourn Outdoors (Barrie) and Squire John's (Collingwood), or even online at RunningFree.com.
