HOCKEY DRY LAND TRAINING just got a whole lot muddier with ADVENTURE RUNNING KIDS® for HOCKEY!
ARK BREAKAWAY! combines the fun-filled and muddy endurance and conditioning of Adventure Running Kids® (Hamilton's largest kids running program) with the drills and agility workouts that are needed in hockey to improve your game. If you are serious about improving your game then get out of the arena, get outdoors and get muddy with our innovative and unique ARK BREAKAWAY! program.
ADVENTURE RUNNING combines trail running, hill running and terrain running and is the perfect for developing a skater's speed, agility and endurance. Unlike road running or track running that emphasizes efficient 'straight-line" running, adventure running involves ground contact, lateral moves, direction change, acceleration, arm strength and development of the critical “sixth sense” of movement. Adventure running builds the muscles needed to help generate the power, momentum and stability needed in skating... at the same time as it gets kids outdoors to enjoy nature and to get muddy.

Breakaway now comes in two distinct formats; Weekly Program and One Off Session
This 4 to 6 week program for kids aged 6-16 prepares your team's game by adopting a variety of fun-filled and muddy adventure running drills to build players’ endurance, agility, speed and power. We see this as being a perfect pre-season program to get the team into shape before ice time becomes available.
The program draws on a variety of adventure running drills such as:
i) Hill training to improve lower body strength to provide the power needed to generate speed on the ice,
ii) Interval training to improve turnover and speed, and
iii) Terrain (mud) running and tempo running to develop endurance and the muscles needed for lateral movement, core strength, and agility.
Each week will build on what has been practiced in previous weeks, with each session becoming more advanced. Our coaches are National and World-class runners with many years of adventure running coaching experience.
One Off Session
NEW! This session of ARK: Breakaway is designed for teams who want to build on their existing training schedules. We come to you at any location and run a session similar to the first week of our Weekly Program for up to an hour. This session has been designed for treams to add an extra training session at the end of their scheduled practices, to build the all important late game-endurance and make the most of their time together as a team.
TRAINING NIGHTS: Teams can negotiate with our program coodinator on a time and location. We have a number of preferred sites that enable us to give kids the most productive work out.
FEE: Our introductory pilot project cost for the 4-6 week ARK BREAKAWAY! program is $95 for per team of 20 players or less per week (plus an additional $5/player for each player over 20). The one off session is $100 per team of 20 players or less.
ARK BREAKAWAY! has been designed specially for hockey teams but we also welcome individuals and small groups interested in improving their hockey agility, speed and power to join the many other hockey players in our main Adventure Running Kids program on Wednesday or Thursday evenings.
